RÉSUMÉ : This study addresses a service network design problem (SNDP) of a German Logistic Service Provider that process less-than-truckloads (LTL)-operations. The problem consists of determining service routes operated by homogeneous trucks and of routing the orders over these service routes such that the total cost is minimized. It is modelled as a mixed integer programming formulation. We propose a heuristic, iterative algorithm based on a decomposition of the two decisions into two separate models. Tests with real life data are conducted. We evaluate the performance regarding run-time, solution quality and robustness.
