RÉSUMÉ : We consider a problem from the waste collection industry. For a number of waste collection sites we have to determine the service frequency over a given planning period as well as the number of bins to place there. The problem consists of a routing and an allocation aspect. The routing part can be modeled as a periodic vehicle routing problem with intermediate facilities and service choice (PVRP-IF-SC). For the allocation part we have to decide on the number and type of bins to place at each site and there is a limit on space at each collection site as well as a limit on the total number of bins of each type that can be used. We present solution methods based on a combination of a metaheuristic for the routing part and an IP for the allocation part.
